Budgie Desktop Screenshots

Very short post, because I’m very busy working on the code for this 🙂

Note, this code is not yet on GitHub, but will find its way there in the next few days. As anyone looking can tell, I’ve drawn heavy inspiration from Chrome OS for the initial direction of the desktop.

This will be used within the first ISO’s that I release, and after feedback is received we can look at optimizing and improving the experience.

Note that the second screenshot was from conceptual stage, and you can see GNOME’s context menu on the background. The most likely approach for the Evolve OS desktop will be to go the full mile with a Flat UI theme.

@ikeydoherty:disqus I only need to say two things

    1.- AWESOME work
2.- a flat black pannel with the budgie’s menu will be a cool combo

If you continue on this way I will install it but please use a GTK 3.10 / 3.12 port of the Solus OS theme and Athena / Nemo as the default FM empathy as IM client and all done

3.12 isn’t out yet, wont be till March. I’d prefer a flat theme, sorry 🙂

Why your building it on top of open suse, i think Ubuntu was much better option. I am new to Linux but i used open suse and i had many issues that i didn’t find in Ubuntu which runs perfectly on my machine.

@disqus_HvTaHjD0yx:disqus Ubuntu uses .deb, and doesn’t natively have GNOME 3.10, amongst many other reasons.

What about 14.04, I think it uses the latest GNOME version, I find it much easier for installing applications and drivers with debian and especially with Ubuntu and it’s derivatives.

That doesn’t alter anything. You’ll be able to use the desktop on top of other distros, I’m working with some guys atm to try and get a PPA together.
GNOME 3.10 is available via PPA, not via official gnome packages.

And, this is an experimental distribution, I need to be able to work upstream, etc. Read the about page, Ubuntus philosphy and my own do not match whatsoever.

¿ Se puede instalar en ubuntu ?

  9. February 28, 2014 05:07

Desktop applications are those that can be accessed from the desktop and installed on your PC, web applications can be accessed through a web browser / network, and you need an Internet / intranet connection to access them, but mobile applications are applications designed for smartphones and tablets.
