Re: Best Way To Install Solus On This Setup

Well, most of the time it is booting. This is an improvement over last time, when it only booted 50% of the time. So things are better. I'll leave it on my old drive. When Solus 4 comes out, I'll revisit things and see if whatever was causing the problem is fixed. I am pretty sure that the problem i...

Re: Best Way To Install Solus On This Setup

So far so good. After some initial ups and downs (Solus wouldn't boot, then booted next time - same as before), I managed to do a round of updates, and it has booted successfully three or four times now. I'll be doing more updates shortly. Hopefully things will continue to work. Solus is looking bet...

Re: Best Way To Install Solus On This Setup

Slight change of plans. I remembered I had the original drive for this computer, which has Windows and Linux Lite. (I cloned it to a better drive as the original one may be failing). So, I can experiment with Solus there. If I succeed in installing it and it continues working, I will feel more confi...

Best Way To Install Solus On This Setup

I am thinking of trying Solus again. I have had problems before with it, but it's such a great system that I have to try again. Here is my current setup: AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Two 500 GB HDDs, 7200 rpm 6 GB ram 8400 GS video card Disk 1: Windows 7, Linux Lite. Disk 2: Zorin Lite, Ubuntu Mate. Curre...

Re: Boot Loader Question

That's something I had wondered about. I did try booting from the Solus grub and the LXLE grub. Didn't make a difference.

It's moot at this point, I have already formatted the partition and installed another distro.

Re: Boot Loader Question

Well, I have reluctantly concluded again that the combination of this particular computer and Solus just doesn't work. My experience was better than last time, when it stopped booting at all. At least it would boot 50% of the time with Solus 3. This does not mean I am giving up on Solus, just on thi...

Re: Boot Loader Question

An update: I performed the Solus Boot Rescue tutorial to see if that would help. At that point, it was booting about 50% of the time. If there were two lines with "fsck" during the initial startup, it would boot. If only one "fsck" it would not. After I did the tutorial, which involved several termi...

Boot Loader Question

On a multiple-boot system, what is the best way to handle boot loader installation? The details: AMD dual-core, 64 bit, 6 GB ram. Two hard drives (conventional), with Zorin and Ubuntu Mate on one, and Windows, LXLE and Solus on the other. This is a legacy-boot setup. The Windows-Solus-LXLE drive is ...

Re: Update Question

Thanks, kyrios. I'll do the other updates.

Edit: Did the updates, no problems. But my computer only boots 50% of the time. So I'm going to wait for a newer version of Solus. Hopefully at some point there will be one that works on this computer.

Update Question

Just installed Solus 3. I did the system and security updates, and would like to know if it's wise to do the"optional" ones. There are 35 of them. I don't want to risk any updates that my older system might not be able to handle. (specs: AMD dual core, 6 GB ram, 3 Ghz CPU.

Thanks,

Mike
