Hi... When I try to play some mkv video with integrated subtitles ... when I start that video in VLC it shows this message:
VLC could not identify the audio or video codec
Both Czech and English language work and when I try to turn on Czech or English subtitles manually that message pop again and subtitles don't showing. It's problem only with matroska .mkv (tested on more than 30 videos) and only with integrated subtitles (not in that when you choose subtitles from file on harddrive). I watched these videos without problem before on Windows 8 10, Bodhi Linux, Ubuntu 15.10, Kubuntu 15.10 and Lubuntu 15.10. I know that VLC uses own codecs.
Thanks... and I know I have many problems what cost you time but I hope it helps to repair bugs.
I use MKVTookNix to to mux an mp4 video file and VTT subtitles file. I had the same problem. Using VLC to playback, it has the same error. But when I play the subtitles as an external file, I have no problem.
Is the problem with MKVToolNix or VLC? Or is it some settings that I've missed.
I noticed that for subtitles that work, it's codec is S_TEXT/UTF8. For the VTT subtitles, it's S_TEXT/WEBVTT.
Hi, I am receiving this error from the latest version of VLC (2.2.4).
Just wondering if there has been any progress and to say that I can provide a .mkv file where the error occurs if you need to reproduce it.
