Installing Double Commander in GNOME

Mon Mar 05, 2018 3:24 pm

This is a simple guide for installing Double Commander, a dual pane file browser, in GNOME.

Using midnight commander works, but imho it's much more efficient to use double commander.

- Download latest GNU/Linux portable 64 bit gtk2 compressed archive.
- extract it to home directory
- rename it to ".doublecmd" (the period makes it a hidden folder)
- in terminal

Code: Select all

sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/doublecmd.desktop
- enter the following in the desktop file and save

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Double Commander
GenericName=File Browser
Icon=doublecmd
Exec=/home/me/.doublecmd/doublecmd
Terminal=false
Categories=Utilities
Keywords=dc;doublecmd;double;commander
- logout and login, or reboot
