Install OpenSpades

Tue Mar 20, 2018 3:36 pm

OpenSpades is a first-person shooter, kind of like Minecraft, but with guns! There are plenty of servers online and graphics are very nice. Also, you are able to add mods (my favorite is a nice rifle skin with scope).

I am aware that there is a Snap package for OpenSpades. I installed it but unfortunately, it is not the latest version. I uninstalled it.

This tutorial will install the latest OpenSpades (Version 0.1.2). I will also show you how to add a nice menu item and also how to install a skin.

Lets begin.

1) Open a terminal and install some stuff.

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg it -c system.devel

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg install git curl curl-devel freetype2 freetype2-devel opusfile opusfile-devel sdl2 sdl2-devel sdl2-image sdl2-image-devel glew glew-devel llvm-clang llvm-clang-devel xorg-server-devel

2) Still in terminal and in /home (if not sure, just do a 'cd' and enter), clone OpenSpades to your home folder.

Code: Select all

git clone

3) Do 'cd openspades' in a terminal.

Code: Select all

cd openspades

4) Make a directory.

Code: Select all

5) Do 'cd' and enter 'cmake' command.

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

cmake .. -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=RelWithDebInfo

6) Do a 'make' in terminal.

Code: Select all

7) Do a 'sudo make install' in terminal.

Code: Select all

sudo make install

8) Make a desktop configuration file. Open gedit and copy text. Save.

Code: Select all

sudo touch /usr/share/applications/OpenSpades.desktop && sudo gedit /usr/share/applications/OpenSpades.desktop

Copy the text below and save file. Important! Replace 'username' with your username.

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Comment=OpenSpades Launcher
Comment[en_US.utf8]=Voxel shooter

9) Add a nice icon to the file you just created. Download this icon and move it to /usr/share/pixmaps. Icon

Code: Select all

cd ~/Downloads && sudo mv openspades.png /usr/share/pixmaps/

10) Note: You may have to run OpenSpades once before doing this step. A very nice rifle skin can be added to ~/.local/share/openspades/Resources. Nice vid

Code: Select all

cd ~/Downloads && wget && mv 204460 ~/.local/share/openspades/Resources/semi-awptomatic-paratrooper-final.pak

Close the terminal.

Code: Select all

Open the main menu on your Budgie panel and look under 'Games.' Play OpenSpades!

Edit: fixed a typo!
