VMware Horizon Client Install

Mon Feb 20, 2017 7:26 pm

I searched the internet this weekend for instructions to install the VMware Horizon View client on my Solus desktop and laptop. After many unsuccessful attempts here is what I did to get it installed:

1. Download the Horizon Client bundle for Linux here: ... lients/4_0

2. In the terminal type the following commands:

Code: Select all

sudo su

Code: Select all

eopkg install libpng12

Code: Select all

eopkg install libxscrnsaver

Code: Select all

cd /home/[YOUR USERNAME]/Downloads

Code: Select all

chmod +x VMware-Horizon-Client-4.X.X-XXXX.x64.bundle

Code: Select all

Once you complete the install you should be able to launch the Horizon View client and connect to your companies VDI environment.

Nice HowTo. I've been meaning to put it up for a while as I use VMWare Horizon for work as well.

Seems like something that would be a valuable addition to the Help Center

I just installed VMware Horizon Client, and wanted to note some additional steps I took (in addition to the original post):

During my install, the VMware installer noted some missing libraries. In particular, it couldn't find those related to the Multimedia Redirection functions. The following terminal commands allowed that part to work:

Code: Select all

cd /usr/lib
sudo ln -s
sudo ln -s
sudo ln -s
sudo ln -s
