Going "All In" with Solus.

Thu Mar 10, 2016 6:39 am

I may be crazy but I've liked what I've seen so far so I'm putting the 128Gb SSD back into my laptop and doing an install of Solus 1.1 to replace my Antergos MATE install. Hopefully they'll be more packages added to the Repos so I can get some use out of the install but I like what I've seen so far so I'm taking the plunge and moving to Solus. 8-)

Since we've got the Firefox Browser you could always use the "Skype" feature that's built into the Browser. It's the little smiley face icon in the upper right corner of the Browser. From what I gather you just click on it and send the link to your friend who clicks on the link and as long as you're running Firefox it doesn't matter which Browser they're running, you get a Skype like interface. Not tried it so I can't say how it'll work but I'm sure it should work ok.

Everything work except video chat, and it's precisely the feature I use Skype on desktop for.

The main things I really need now are Openshot video editor, feh photo viewer, Calibre ebook reader, Clementine music player and hardinfo which is used as a System info and benchmarking tool. If I could get that then I could probably live in Solus just fine but not having those tools is killin' me.

I still need to look up the packages up on git hub so I can point you to the tar.gz files. I'm going to try to learn to compile from source so I an install tar.gz packages myself. I just figure it's time to put on my Big Boy Pants and learn to compile from source so I'll be watching a few YouTube vids today. :D

I will look for packaging hardinfo

EDIT: Maybe i didn't get something but hardinfo don't have any install rule. I can't make a complete .yml file.

Code: Select all

name : hardinfo
version : 0.5.1
release : 1
homepage : http://hardinfo.org
source :
    - https://github.com/lpereira/hardinfo/archive/release-0.5.1.tar.gz : 91b4181db8f720d245eeb3989e16dcdd86befef58c8087b39efa18849f003457
license : GPL-2.0
summary : HardInfo is a system profiler and benchmark for Linux systems.
description: |
HardInfo is a system profiler and benchmark for Linux systems. It is able to
obtain information from both hardware and basic software, and organize them
in a simple to use GUI.
builddeps :
    - pkgconfig(gtk+-2.0)
    - pkgconfig(libsoup-2.4)
setup : |
    hardinfo2/configure --prefix=/usr
build : |
    %make hardinfo2/
But it's pretty easy to build it:
- get the tarball
- extract it
- go to hardinfo2 folder
- install libgtk2-devel and libsoup-devel
- ./configure
- make

I started packaging openshot:

Code: Select all

name : openshot
version : 2.0.3
release : 1
homepage : http://www.openshot.org/
source :
    - https://launchpad.net/openshot/2.0/2.0.3/+download/openshot-qt-2.0.3.tar.gz : b90ae1ec3a1caa164cd18f991d3483456d3f017ba242d7f853202e8c2dc3c4e5
license : GPL-3.0
summary : OpenShot Video Editor is a free, open-source video editor
description: |
OpenShot can take your videos, photos, and music files and help you create the film you have always dreamed of. Easily add sub-titles, transitions, and effects, and then export your film to DVD, YouTube, Vimeo, Xbox 360, and many other common formats.
builddeps :
    - ffmpeg
    - python-setuptools
build : |
    python3 setup.py install --prefix=/usr
there is some python mess:

Code: Select all

+ python3 setup.py install --prefix=/usr
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "setup.py", line 32, in <module>
    from setuptools import setup
ImportError: No module named 'setuptools'
I successfully build feh, but as I not know this software I prefer let you try it before sending the patch:

Code: Select all

name : feh
version : 2.14.2
release : 1
homepage : https://feh.finalrewind.org/
source :
    - http://feh.finalrewind.org/feh-2.14.2.tar.bz2 : c80f3d3297b3b6ee4898572d19692f5e19eb3066a9ca078c3099d39004a7e0cf
license : MIT
summary : feh is an X11 image viewer aimed mostly at console users.
description: |
feh is an X11 image viewer aimed mostly at console users. Unlike most other viewers, it does not have a fancy GUI, but simply displays images. It is controlled via commandline arguments and configurable key/mouse actions.
builddeps :
    - pkgconfig(x11)
    - pkgconfig(xinerama)
    - pkgconfig(imlib2)
    - pkgconfig(xt)
    - pkgconfig(libpng)
build : |
    %make
install : |
    %make_install
