Freeze when shutting down

Wed Feb 14, 2018 9:49 am

Hi there!

I have just started using Solus, but sometimes my computer freezes completely when i try to shut down, and I'm forced hold to the on/off button to shut it off...

Is there any way to fix that?

Hi,

Does it happen every time or just sometimes?
Does your computer have an Intel CPU with Nvidia graphics?
Does this help? - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11207
Keep in mind that the above post refers to a laptop and the problem happened always.

I would say about 9 out of 10 times it happens. And yes, Intel CPU and NVIDIA graphics.

I tried the code in the link but it did not help unfortunately...

The blacklisting takes effect only after a restart - which means you'll have to go through a forced power-off one more time. I think I also installed `xorg-driver-video-intel` before restarting, although I'm not sure this is needed.
Another way I solved the issue for my laptop was to install the nvidia proprietary drivers. It also required a restart.
I don't have any other ideas for now.

I tried to install the drivers, but now I'm unable to even boot into Solus. After boot menu, it just waits with a black screen and a blinking "_" in the top left corner... (writing from my windows partition).

I managed a different fix for my reboot issues with `nouveau.modeset=0`.

This assumes your Intel CPU has integrated graphics.
