Snaps or Flatpak? I'm a bit confused

Sat Mar 03, 2018 3:01 pm

I've read these articles some time ago and I've seen that Snaps are going to be integrated into Software repository in Solus 4, so I'm getting pretty confused about Solus's relationship to Snap/Flatpak and what will ultimately replace the third party repository, or perhaps both?

https://solus-project.com/2017/01/18/ad ... lications/

https://itsfoss.com/solus-flatpak-package/

Can anyone who knows a bit more on the matter help me understand it a bit more on whether Solus will integrate both into the software center, or will it choose one or the other because of some particular reason?

Thanks in advance for help and best regards!

Initial intention was to use Flatpak as a replacement of 3rd party repository but then Snaps was chosen.

Both are supported in CLI.

Thanks for the response. I'm not really biased towards any of them but is there any way or are there any plans to support theming in snaps? Also why were the Snaps chosen over Flatpaks? Is it because of better Third party support and publicity?

Thanks for the references! I know that Ikey and the team will do what's best on the long run for us Solus users to be pleased with the OS and really make a great Desktop distribution! Hopefully we will see some way from Canonical to theme Snaps at least a bit since I'm avoiding them for that reason :P
