Running Solus as guest on Virtualbox and cannot install Virtualbox guest additions

Sat Mar 03, 2018 6:08 pm

Hi all,

As the title says. My host is Windows 10, running Virtualbox 5.2.8 r121009. I've installed Solus-3Budgie successfully as guest. I am following these instructions but I get the following error:

Cannot generate ORC metadata for CONFIG_UNWINDER_ORC=y, please install libelf-dev, libelf-devel or elfutils-libelf-devel". STOP. I tried installing libelf-devel and elfutils-devel but I still get the same error

Please can someone assist, I can't find any documentation on this error.

I can confirm this also on Windows 7 host. It seems to be related recent kernels released in past two weeks or so. The latest kernel where guest additions could be built successfully was 4.15.5-56.

Normally it should work with Virtualbox 5.2.8
Linux guests: Linux 4.15 support (bugs #17311, #17320, #17282)

Perhaps you could switch to the LTS kernel to see if it works better ?

Thanks for the tip. Didn't know that we have LTS option too.

Yes indeed, guest additions build just fine with LTS kernel. This is fine as workaround until the current gets fixed.
