Wring version of pinned firefox open (dev edition)

Sun Oct 15, 2017 11:57 pm

Good evening,

I installed firefox dev edition (v57) in /opt/firefox-dev and made a firefox-dev.desktop file in /usr/share/applications/ :

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Name=Firefox
GenericName=Web Browser
Exec=/opt/firefox-dev/firefox %u
Icon=/opt/firefox-dev/browser/icons/mozicon128.png
Terminal=false
Type=Application
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;text/mml;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;
StartupNotify=true
Categories=Network;WebBrowser;
Keywords=web;browser;internet;
Actions=new-window;new-private-window;

[Desktop Action new-window]
Name=Open a New Window
Exec=/opt/firefox-dev/firefox %u

[Desktop Action new-private-window]
Name=Open a New Private Window
Exec=/opt/firefox-dev/firefox --private-window %u
I have no firefox window opened
I unpin the already pinned version (v56).
I opened the dev version that I can easily find in the menu.
Right-click on the icon -> Pin to panel
Close firefox, click on the pinned icon
Firefox normal (v56) open.
Also the v56 icon is displayed, not the dev icon on the panel.

Now it might be something in my .desktop file but I think it did work properly on other distro with that same exact file.

Is it a bug or is it on my side?

Thanks!

Probably
Name=Firefox

The applications have the same name so they're probably clashing. Try this instead. (this is what i use on my desktop just update exec/icon for you)

Code: Select all

#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Firefox-dev
Comment=Browse the World Wide Web
GenericName=Web Browser
X-GNOME-FullName=Firefox Web Browser (Dev)
Exec=/home/user/ownCloud/opt/firefox-dev/firefox -p dev-edition-default %u
Terminal=false
X-MultipleArgs=false
Type=Application
Icon=/home/user/ownCloud/opt/firefox-dev/browser/icons/mozicon128.png
Categories=Network;WebBrowser;
MimeType=text/html;text/xml;application/xhtml+xml;application/xml;application/vnd.mozilla.xul+xml;application/rss+xml;application/rdf+xml;image/gif;image/jpeg;image/png;x-scheme-handler/http;x-scheme-handler/https;
StartupWMClass=Firefox-dev
StartupNotify=true

Yeah, i see the same thing. Panel defaults to firefox no matter which i use.

Not sure about this, I tried using different binary names (firefox-bin) and playing with it but it is probably something in the panel that needs changing.

Which is changing to QT at some point so probably won't be fixed until that comes out.

... or perhaps wait for Firefox 57 final which should be available mid-November ;)

Try this!

Fixed my nightly pinning issue so you should be able to transate it for your dev edition
