Any plans for a 32bit version of Solus?

Thu Mar 10, 2016 6:37 pm

Just wonder if you have a 32 bit version in the works? I think the Budgie DE would be awesome on older Netbooks like my old Acer Aspire ZG5 with it's limited RAM. I'm currently running Manjaro MATE on it but even that eats a bit more RAM than the Budgie DE and I don't think it looks as nice. Anyway, just wanted to ask if we'll be seeing a 32bit version of Solus in the near future. Thanks.

Budgie is available in the Arch and Manjaro repos btw. The Arch package is now better.

There are no plans for a 32-bit edition of Solus because there has been practically no demand whatsoever.
In fact the last survey I did saw less than 7 people request it. So we'd rather focus on one architecture
and do it well, and exploit modern features of the CPUs

I still think that once you get the 64 bit version fleshed out a little more that a 32 bit version would be nice for those of us who have older laptops or netbooks with Atom processors who would like to run a nice, light weight DE like Budgie with the eopkg packages. I know it's a lot of work and ya'll really need to get the 64 bit moving in the right direction first but man, would I love to put Solus on my Acer Aspire ZG5 Netbook. ;)

I'm not going to invest the resources in doubling our requirements, time commitments, storage needs for something
that won't be used, sorry

Tbh this is something I did evaluate at the start of the project, however interest in the ABI was declining too rapidly for it to ever be viable :)
