Nov 9 updates may break Budgie (keyboard)-FIX

Mon Nov 09, 2015 5:07 pm

This has been discussed on Google+ but many may not be aware.
Todays updates (gnome 3.18, budgie, et) breaks Budgie for me. Will not accept password. But newly installed Gnome-Shell works fine.

Be best to wait for a resolution b4 update. (Or make a backup and trust to luck--Or use Gnome-Shell).. ;)

Please try the following to fix the keyboard issue:

Code: Select all

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys active false
Then reboot.

Note, disabling media keys disables most keyboard shortcuts..

Sadly I'm unable to now undo these updates from v1 repo. If I've caused breakage or inconvenience to anyone, I'm sorry.
None of the problems now appearing (such as blaz's display corruption, or this password issue) appeared during final testing.

Doesn't appear to have affected many (just me and Blaz?).

Anyone running unstable should always make a clone in any event.. :P

It has also affected me. I updated this morning (v1 repo) and now I'm facing the same problem. Budgie will not accept my password.
If I've caused breakage or inconvenience to anyone, I'm sorry.
To be fair this is the first real issue I've encountered while using Solus and I've been using Daily and RC1. Some issues are to be expected. I'm surprised there hasn't been more to be honest. Overall Solus and Budgie have been quite stable for me.

JamesH try typing your password in using the numpad (if it has numbers in it).

It does have numbers in it. I'll give it a try in the morning. I'm at work tonight and don't have access to my computer at the moment.

Has using the numbers pad worked for some people?

It is mutter causing the issue and it affects the kb layout, the numbers above qwerty are affected but the numpad isn't

this affects me too......... Numba pad is a saviour........... but it also affects internet logins where numbers are required

i could login using normal keyboard numbers, but any admin priviledges require me to use numba pad...... i was trying to unlock ....date and time ......... but couldnt until i used number pad

I have just reset my google passwords because the keyboard numbers werent working........... finally read this forum post and tried numba pad ........ and bingo, i can login to FB and Google accounts !!

god knows how this could happen ???

i will leave it to brighter minds than me to figure out

Thanks Ikey ............. going great guns so far ...........other than this

This was breakage from GNOME themselves, sorry :( They moved input source handling out of gnome-settings-daemon into gnome-shell.

i.e. "I'm all right Jack, pull up the ladder." Still looking for a fix..
