Driver Changes

Tue May 12, 2015 11:29 pm

Hello all,

With the most recent update, you will have issues if you have the nvidia driver manually installed. Remove it,
and then reinstall the required packages post update:

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg it --reinstall xorg-server mesalib
This can also cause situations where X isn't starting now, in which case you need to reinstall xorg-server.

Drivers are now managed internally via packaging and do not require the use of dkms. In fact I'm making
an enormous effort to avoid it. As such we're using a new tool, gl-driver-switch [1], to maintain the distribution
GL links.

Installing nvidia drivers

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg it nvidia-glx-driver
Reboot.

Reverting to nouveau

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg remove nvidia-glx-driver
Reboot.

Or you can find nvidia-glx-driver in System/X.Org Drivers in the Software Center. Note as fglrx (AMD) cannot yet
be tested its currently unavailable until a short time after beta2 as an update.

using the nouveau driver, I had to use the fix from the google+ page
Blaž Mežnaršič
I had to reinstall xorg-server. Lightdm failed to run. I was using the open source nvidia driver. I just logged into the command line and ran these (thanks Ikey):

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg it --reinstall xorg-server

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl restart lightdm.service

... ;)

Code: Select all
