If you update grub from another distro, often the whole initrd line of the grub command is left off for Solus. You might want to check on that.

Yeah other GRUBs don't like Solus, we'll have to investigate why that is, possibly a setting or file we're missing that grub searches for on each partition.

Still no go. Got the same result. I even re-downloaded the ISO and burn a new DVD. Still got kernel panic on reboot

You need to write the image to USB, not DVD..

USB is read/write capable which is better for live ISOs. Also faster and reusable.

Third time still no go. Seemed to install, went to Linux Mint and update-grub, reboot into Solus and kernel panic. Used a USB drive this time.

As i saw you use Mint i can advise you to install "Mintstick"
It is the graphical program of "dd"
I installed it in Elementary and it works perfectly for me. dd sometimes failed so i used it several times to put the Solus iso on a stick.

Mintstick is what I used to write to my USB drive.
