Add Windows in EFI Solus Boot Menu

Fri Jan 26, 2018 1:42 am

Hi all,

I am having an problem with dual-boot Windows/Solus
I just install Solus OS, and with the help center, I create a EFI partition.

But when I reboot, Windows doesn’t show in the boot menu.
I ran the timeout & update commands but I just have these 3 options:

Solus
EFI Default Boot
Reboot into Firmware Interface

If someone can help me, I’ll be happy 😂😂

Try using the same EFI (ESP) partition for windows & solus and it should work.

You need to find what key opens up quick boot menu when you start your computer (other than the one that you use to access bios). There you should see both Linux boot manager and Windows boot manager and simply choose Windows if you need to boot to it. That's probably the best way to boot to a different system when dual-booting with different EFI partitions.

Having Solus and Windows to use the same EFI partition is an option but you risk losing Solus bootloader when Windows does major upgrade (assuming you have Windows 10). You also would need to have bigger partition than default Windows 10 EFI partition (which is only 100 MB) to not have any problems in the future and playing with partitions when you have system already installed is not recommended and might result in the data loss if you mess something up.
