Help with switching laptop touchpad driver to synaptic

Mon Nov 20, 2017 8:26 pm

I have a Dell Latitude E7240 laptop and been have issue touchpad. When I move the mouse, the mouse would jump across screen and start shaking, making it hard to click on anything. No issue when a use an external mouse.

I did some research and it looks like there is an issue with libinput module.

I also I saw that with some users that had similar issues switch the touchpad driver to synaptic but I having a hard time finding instructions on how to switch the driver.

If anyone have any ideas on how to switch the driver or if you need more information about this issue, please let me know

Thank you in advance.

If I were to guess the process, it would be (one line at a time):

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg install xorg-driver-input-synaptics
sudo mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d
sudo cp /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-synaptics.conf
Would need to reboot

To undo would do:

Code: Select all

sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-synaptics.conf

Thank you for helping me out with this.

I tried the above fix and it didn't resolve the issue.

I have a Latitude E6430 and this worked great, thanks SunnyFlunk. There's some great info here on how to configure Synaptics options after you install the driver.

I've done this on my Dell Precision 6800 and the touchpad is much more stable, but I lost tap to click function (touchpad buttons still work)
