Hi forum.

I am in the market for a new laptop.

What hardware requirements are there for Solus? Not the minimum.

I am thinking of buying a Dell XPS 13 with the following configuration:

CPU: Intel Core i5 6200U 2.3GHz (2-Core)
RAM: 4GB DDR3L
SSD: 128 GB

or maybe an Asus ZenBook? :D :D :D :D :D :D

No minimum/recommended specs have really been determined. We know the installer won't function with < 768MB RAM. I would suggest (and this is just guestimating) 2GB RAM minimum and 2 core CPU + a graphics card that can handle a 3D desktop which is basically anything these days.

The big holdups on Linux are generally REALLY new hardware or poorly supported WiFi chipsets like Broadcom.

Still it, rent it, beg for it - but the only option is Dell XPS 13 (preferably with HD resolution, not 4K). Experience is 10/10, including gigantic on-battery times, very responsive and slick system. I'm using Solus/Gnome, but I guess same is with Budgie, if you prefer.

Of course, there could be other good laptops, but from my experience (from Lenovo Yoga, MSI gaming laptops, to several desktops) - XPS 13 is the top notch. Wouldn't change it for anything.

There is a page on the Help Center that have been reported as working fine with Solus (this of course doesn't mean that other models don't work fine).

Personally I am very happy of the Dell XPS 15 9560.

There are many choices here. I do recommend System76 based on personal experience with the Galago laptop and the Sable All-in-One desktop (no longer available).

https://linuxpreloaded.com/

My Galago runs every day 7/365 for at least 12 hrs daily X 3 years. Zero issues or problems. But the edge System76 has is the "lifetime" (of the laptop) free OS support (live chat and email).
