Dell Latitude 5580 Touchpad Not Working

Sun Feb 12, 2017 2:32 am

Touchpad not recognized using live CD, and I can confirm that the problem persists after installation. According to Dell the touchpad is an Alps Multi-Touch.

I'm thinking it's a kernel issue.

xinput list:

Virtual Core Pointer ID=2 master pointer (3)
Virtual core XTEST Pointer ID=4 slave pointer (2)

Logitech USB mouse works normally

Ok, I finally got around to testing the touchpad on a new Dell Latitude 5580 with the current Ubuntu 16.04 Live DVD, and it works fine.

...but it doesn't work when I boot from Solus

I had a Logitech mouse plugged in to facilitate taking the pic in Solus.

Any ideas?

Would be best to make a task on https://dev.solus-project.com/ as likely it will need a driver enabled in the kernel, though I'm not sure which one at this point

Hi,
I have konfigured latest stable release of kernel 4.14.8 to support Dell Latitude 5580 touchpad + trackpoint as:

General setup -> Configure standard kernel features (expert users)
Device Drivers -> Input -> Mice -> PS/2 mouse (ALPS PS/2 + Synaptics PS/2 options)
Device Drivers -> I2C support -> Synopsys DesignWare Platform
Device Drivers -> I2C support -> Synopsys DesignWare Platform -> Synopsys DesignWare Slave
Device Drivers -> HID support -> Special HID drivers -> (Synaptics + Alps HID device suport)
Device Drivers -> HID support -> I2C HID support -> HID over I2C transport layer
