[SOLVED] Is it possible to get a Broadcom BCM4360 working?

Wed Mar 29, 2017 8:52 pm

Hi
I just tried a live USB installation of Solus and there where no network cards there at all. I have a bcm4360 (macbook air) which is currently not supported.
Is there any way I can get this working?
On a ubuntu 16.10 I can install the bcmwl-kernel-source and that solves the problem. I guess that would not work on Solus.
Thanx

Jon

There is a 'broadcom-sta' package available in the repo for handling broadcom devices. It would require a system update though as the kernel version needs to match the broadcom-sta package it was built for. It will be much easier after a new ISO (coming soon) where you could copy the broadcom-sta package via usb to make networking usable.

Thank you. The sta-drivers don`t work for me in Ubuntu, thats why I use the bcmwl-kernel-source. Do you think they will work in Solus?
Will it be easier to do this if I do a full install first? I can connect to internet via the ethernet card. Probably.

I discovered that there is an application called "Hardware drivers". Excellent!
The Broadcom wifi is there and ready to install but it just hangs on the installation screen. Maybe because its a live usb.
I would try this from a normal installation if I could, but Solus doesn't see my SSD disk so I cant install it. Mentioned it in another related thread.
Too bad, Solus seems very promising.

There is an alternative . . . . a linux compatible usb wifi adaptor.

The Panda devices are very linux friendly . . . the ultra 150 n is plug & play on a wide variety of Linux distros.

Thanx for the tip, but I´ll rather go for another distro than install external equipment.
I´ll try to install Solus again later. :)

The sta driver seems to work.
Since Solus doesn´t see my SSD I installed it to an external USB. I installed all the system updates and then the driver in "Hardware drivers", and after a restart the wifi works. Great!
Now on to the invisible SSD...
