Nvidia Driver Install failed?

Fri Aug 18, 2017 11:40 am

Hello there!
I really like Solus but somehow a problem showed up.
I've installed the proprietary nvidia driver through this gui tool.
After rebooting - I cannot boot into solus any more. Grub shows up and after a few
seconds it boots the selected entry (does not work with the other one either)
but it seems not to get any further.

Now the real problem is: my notebook has a broken display, and I cannot see 3/4 of the things
happening there - so I cannot really edit the boot entries nor see what's happening after the selected boot entry tries to boot.
What can I do here? Something with a live cd (Solus?) to solve this?
Unfortunately It seems I cannot get my notebook to use the HDMI output as main output for everything :(

Somehow I've managed to get it working through VGA -
sudo eopkg rm nvidia-glx-driver-common
and installed nvidia-304-glx-driver.
With this driver it seems to work.

But there is a new problem - I cannot fully control my desktop and it's apps.
When I start an app, terminal, I can write text and take actions only to this one terminal.
I can open budgie menu, but cannot write nor can I click on any available icon.

What's going on here? :(

What kernel are you using? Post the output of:
inxi -Fx

The NVIDIA site says you should be on 340.xx series drivers.

Hm, last time I've tried it, through DoFlicky, I could'nt get in to the GUI.
Maybe the error in this grub thing is the problem?

I would validate that there's no corruption on the disk (run this once only):

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg up; sudo eopkg check | grep Broken | awk '{print $4}' | xargs sudo eopkg it --reinstall
Then ensure grub is installed properly:

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg install grub2 --reinstall

Hm, I did your commands (thank you), and after some time some updates. And it seems to work now (with 340)
Except that I cannot run Civilization 5. (Borderlands 2 is working).

Code: Select all

Hey guys,

I'm new to Linux and am having this same problem. I installed the nacidos driver in an effort to boost my fps in league of legends but now I can't get passed a black screen with blinking cursor.

I have not yet tried the above because I had to leave for work but will try when I get home. Please post if you worked out how to get civ running as well.

Thanks
