How to install KVM in Solus?

Sat Jan 20, 2018 4:09 pm

I use this command to install KVM :

Code: Select all

$ sudo eopkg install qemu-kvm libvirt-bin ubuntu-vm-builder bridge-utils ia32-libs-multiarch
but it gives me an error:
ImportError: failed to find libmagic. Check your installation

To have KVM working (assuming your processor supports virtualization):

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg install libvirt
sudo eopkg insatll virt-manager
Next you'll need to enable and start

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl enable libvirtd.service
sudo systemctl start libvirtd.service
Finally, add your user to the libvirt group :

Code: Select all

sudo usermod -a -G libvirt <your_username>
newgrp libvirt

You can also go with gnome-boxes instead of virt-manager

kvm is supported in the kernel and qemu. If you have qemu installed, you can use kvm. Run this rather than qemu-kvm which is basically what the script in the package does

Code: Select all

qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm
