Forum Rules

Fri Aug 22, 2014 11:34 am

Every forum needs some form of guidance to ensure smooth operation, and to maintain a good project reputation as well as keeping the
forums welcoming for new (and existing) users. Note this list may be modified at any time without warning. Ignoring these guidelines will
not only make you unpopular, but will reflect badly on the project and those involved. Please be courteous and keep these forums a friendly
and inviting place.
  • No spam or unsolicited posts/private messages
  • No links or references to illegal materials, "warez" or otherwise dubious links or content
  • No obscene content, or links to content, pertaining to an illegal, or pornographic nature.
  • No bullying, even when disguised as "banter". Forums should be welcoming
  • No excessive embedding of images. This drastically slows down page loads. Can usually be off-topic, think before posting.
  • Unless it is a dedicated off-topic forum or thread, please remain on topic. A good forum is a constructive one.
  • No needless bashing of other projects. Sometimes this can be unavoidable, so make your post valid with facts, and not passion.
  • No cross-forum politics. Causing arguments or posting invalid content elsewhere reflects badly on the project and myself.
  • No foul language. (I make a distinction between light curse and foul language, needless swearing is unattractive.)
  • Lastly, enjoy yourself! If someone is upsetting the balance of the forums, PM a mod or myself and we'll discuss it with you and
that person separately from each other, to try and resolve the situation.

I'm guilty master of using images more than a normal person but I've been playing with images to communicate for some time and find it helpful.

I get most of my stuff from http://smile.lin.me.uk/pics/pages/index.html

A friend Lemming, a database guru put a db together for me a few years ago that sucks in image file names, you categorise or tag them and then it spits out html files.

You could have a button on the forum so most images would be cached?

If we introduce caching it puts load on the server, and either way new images means users need to cache in their browser locally, therefore
there is still the issue of worsened page load times :) (Some people have sucky internet or sucky DNS)

Size of the image would matter I think and if I hosted the images on my server?.

Are you secretly working on taking over the world? Only logical step after making Budgie the best DE. With the nice vertical panel, there is no need for me to use DockBarX.

Please take no offence ukbrian but this is now off topic, and going against the rules only a few inches above. I'd like to reserve this topic only for forum rules.

No need, backed onto topic now :) Besides I'd rather see your comments on interesting posts, not boring soul-sucker ones like this :)

Can we have this as mandatory view (or redirected landing page) for new users? They should be aware of basics. Thanks!

EDIT:
Also, is it possible to edit OP to include below?
  • Before posting your problem, please ensure system is up to date (this is important for any distro on rolling release model).
  • Please mark solved topics as [Solved] so it is easier to be found by other users with same problem.
  • Please use Code tags to paste output of logs.
  • Please use Quote tags to paste relevant portion of other posts only
  • Please use right and relevant topic / subject while creating threads
As a courtesy to all users and keeping our forums tidy, please

* Mark your thread [Solved] if done (i.e. edit 1st post & prepend [Solved] in subject)
* Use [ code ] to paste your logs
* Use [ quote ] to cite relevant portions instead of quoting entire post
