Realtek RTL8192CU very slow / unstable

Sat Jan 27, 2018 5:14 pm

Hello,

I did a complete fresh reinstall of Solus but I have a problem with my wifi adapter.
WLAN is very slow (decreased from ~1.3MB/s to ~100KB/s and after some time I have no connection (It keeps telling me that I'm connected)
I tried to compile the driver myself from official ASUS website but the compilation failed:

Code: Select all

make ARCH=x86_64 CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/modules/4.14.14-47.current/build M=/home/intence/Downloads/RTL8188C_8192C_USB_linux_v4.0.5_11249.20140422/driver/rtl8188C_8192C_usb_linux_v4.0.5_11249.20140422 modules

Is there any fix for that?

I was having the same problem with my HP laptop and rtl8723be chipset and solved it like this:
First find out your wifi chipset with:

Code: Select all

lspci
Install basic development tools and system headers for the make command:

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg it -c system.devel
sudo eopkg it linux-lts-headers
sudo eopkg install linux-current-headers
Install git

Code: Select all

sudo eopkg install git
Then :

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new
cd rtlwifi_new
make
make install
Reboot and then

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -rv rtl8723be
(or your chipset model)

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe -v rtl8723be ant_sel=2
(if you don't see any changes try with ant_sel=1)

And if you want to make the changes permanent:

Code: Select all

sudo mkdir /etc/modprobe.d
echo "options rtl8723be ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtlbtcoex.conf
Hope that helps.
