Does Solus OS - Budgie support Nvidia GTX 1070?

Sat Jun 02, 2018 10:45 pm

My question for you guys is if Nvidia GTX 1070 has support for Solus OS - Budgie? Just in case so I don't install the OS and for some reason the graphics card doesn't work. :)

Thanks in advance,

I am not sure this answers your question: I own a gtx 980ti. Just like all Nvidia drivers you should be ready to fight a little to make the property work. This is due to the fragmented versions of Nvidia drivers.

I have written a tutorial on the appropriate section, in case things go not as planned. However, Solus is just like any other Linux distributions.

Anyways. How should I proceed with the installation path so that I can get my GTX 1070 work. Ive seen there are Linux based drivers out on nVidia's own site. But im asking mainly because they aren't meant to be for Solus OS. Is there a command or a package you have to install after booting up Solus for the first time to have your GTX 1070 rock n' rollin just fine? :)

works out of the box but you might want to install the proprietary nvidia drivers for better performance.
i believe i just installed nvidia-glx-driver-current from the software centre (probably rebooted as well)
and thats it afaik

i belive (but could be wrong) that installing the one with no version number and called something with current ensures you always get the latest version whenever updates are available in the repositories as opposed to installing one with a version number in its name

Im a bit of a Solus fan. But next week is a big week for me. I'll be getting myself a brand-new Gaming Laptop. Not that Im trying to show of but it's worth around 2600$. It's the Lenovo Legion Y920, their newest machine out on the market. And I am so worriedful that It will damage my laptop by installing Solus OS as my main OS. I keep telling myself Solus OS is stable enough and should not cause or inflict any damage to it what so ever. If you would've have gotten a new laptop that expensive what would you have done? :)

My GTX 1080Ti works right out of the box with whatever support it has right after install.
But yeah...if you want gaming performance then obviously you´d want install nvidia drivers.
