Problems with the taskbar

Fri Jul 13, 2018 11:05 pm

Is there any way to make a command in my taskbar? Runelite, a third party client for old school Runescape, has to be downloaded as a java file. So I either open the file or run java -jar /home/vibes/Desktop/RuneLite.jar, is there any way for me to put that command or that file in the taskbar?

You can create a desktop file to add Runelite to the application menu and then add it to the panel.

Create the file runelite.desktop in /home/USERNAME/.local/share/applications. (.local is a hidden folder. You can show hidden files and folders in Nautilus by pressing Ctrl+h.)

Open the file and add this code to the file:

Code: Select all

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Runelite
Exec=java -jar /PATH/TO/JAR/FILE
Terminal=false
Categories=Game

Save the file.

Replace /PATH/TO/JAR/FILE with the correct filepath. It's probably along the lines /home/USERNAME/Desktop/RuneLite.jar. If you move the RuneLite.jar file, you will have to update the runelite.desktop file accordingly.

You can now launch RuneLite from the applications menu and pin it to the panel.
